Choose five bands, enter exactly 10 kΩ, and select ±1% tolerance. A five-band value needs three significant digits, then one multiplier and one tolerance band. The encoder searches only exact supported representations and does not replace the request with a nearby preferred value.

Split 10000 Ω into three digits and a multiplier

The exact five-band form is 100 × 10² Ω. Digits 1, 0, and 0 map to brown, black, and black. Multiplier 10² maps to red. Tolerance 1% maps to brown. The final left-to-right code is brown–black–black–red–brown. No digit or exponent was rounded.

Verify the ±1% range

One percent of 10000 Ω is 10000 × 1 ÷ 100 = 100 Ω. Subtracting and adding gives a nominal tolerance range of 9900–10100 Ω. The code and range are exact arithmetic. Actual measured resistance, temperature behavior, power rating, and circuit suitability still come from the physical part and datasheet.
